MA in Sustainable Tourism Management (Thesis – Non-Thesis)
This Master's Program focuses on the sustainability of policies, principles and practices in tourism. In the current recovery period in the tourism sector, which has been affected by the global pandemic, and global and regional crises and conflicts in recent years, the competitiveness of the sector and sustainable tourism approaches have come to the forefront. An analysis of global trends reveals that not only policy makers, but also the major players and consumers in the sector are in favor of sustainability.
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Türkiye Tourism Promotion and Development Agency (TGA) have adopted principles aimed at increasing incomes, and promoting sustainability and competitiveness in tourism in the strategy developed in cooperation with Cappadocia University. As a consequence, the Turkish Sustainable Tourism Program was initiated by the TGA in 2022 in cooperation with GSTC. Aiming at the sustainable growth of Turkish tourism in the post-COVID-19 period, this program will be actualized by the accommodation providers in Türkiye. The criteria set and program of the TGA have been recognized by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) and comply in full with the GSTC criteria.
Steering its activities related to sustainable tourism, Cappadocia University has been a corporate member of the GSTC since 2021. Within the framework of the memorandum of understanding concluded with the GSTC, Cappadocia University is the only institution in Türkiye with the authority to organize training approved and certified by GSTC. Training aimed at increasing the theoretical and practical knowledge of tourism professionals, managers and academicians on sustainable tourism and at the development of sustainability-based business models is provided both online and face-to-face in the Turkish language.
The Sustainable Tourism Management Master's Program has been developed in cooperation with the GSTC. The program covers all the main principles and topics related to sustainability in the global travel and tourism sectors. Students who complete the course in accordance with the GSTC Criteria listed in the program are entitled to take the exam, and to obtain the internationally recognized GSTC Sustainable Tourism Professional Certificate (STTP-Sustainable Tourism Training Program).
