MA in English Language and Literature (Thesis and Non-Thesis)
English Language and Literature Graduate Program evaluates the literary works of English literature by taking the political life, cultural background and intellectual movements of the era in which they were written into consideration. Our program aims to train individuals with critical awareness and strong self-criticism, as individuals who can contribute to the current knowledge about English language, literature and culture.
The program includes basic courses such as Literary Theory and Criticism, Scientific Research Methods and Publication Ethics; courses in which the major genres of English literature are studied such as British Novel Reviews, English Poetry Reviews, and British Theater Reviews; and courses focusing on environmental science, eco-criticism and cultural research, such as Environment, Culture and Literature, Environment and Travel Literature, Media, Communication and Environment and Cinema and Eco-criticism.
What distinguishes our English Language and Literature Graduate Program from its equivalents is its advanced courses in the field of environmental humanities and “post-human” studies given by lecturers specialized in the field. These courses are included in the curriculum in addition to traditional English literature research courses, so that students can follow the latest academic developments. Cappadocia university has set its target as being a prominent center of environmental humanities studies, which has been developing rapidly in the last decade, especially in Anglo-Saxon and European academies. Our Environmental Humanities Research Center is Turkey's first academic structure in this field.
