Art and Architecture Historian Dr. Ali Uzay Peker works as a lecturer in the Department of Architecture, Middle East Technical University. Peker's expertise focuses on medieval architectural symbolism, cosmology and the eighteenth century, giving lectures on Early Islam, Seljuk, Ottoman, Renaissance and Baroque architectural traditions. In these areas, he has published articles and book chapters in various national and international settings and has also compiled books. In his publications on medieval architectural symbolism, he has shown the original meanings of forms and spaces by revealing the conceptual backgrounds of architectural symbols. In one of his works on the eighteenth century, he has explained the construction purpose and meaning of the Istanbul Nuruosmaniye Mosque. Ali Uzay Peker received his doctorate from Istanbul Technical University, his master's degree from Boğaziçi University and his undergraduate degree from Istanbul University. To date, he has held various positions such as faculty member, academic manager, project coordinator, EU project expert / referee and Bologna Specialist.
