At Cappadocia University, applied education consists of internships, vocational training in enterprises, and practical courses.
INTERNSHIPS
1. COMPULSORY INTERNSHIP
The internship is an important process for preparing the student for professional life in the public or private sector in the field of graduation and for gaining experience. While preparing educational programs, providing on-the-job training (practical knowledge) to students has been determined as a priority, alongside theoretical knowledge. In general, the curricula of the programs at our University include 30 working days of compulsory internship training. In departments and programs where an internship is mandatory by the decision of the relevant board, students are required to complete internships to improve their ability to apply the theoretical knowledge they have learned at the University in the relevant sector and to gain work experience. Students enrolled in these departments or programs must successfully complete the internships required under the Cappadocia University Applied Education Directive in order to graduate. A diploma is not awarded to students who fail to successfully complete their internship. In undergraduate programs that do not require application skills, internships are not compulsory. In addition, since applied training is already included in the curricula of the Aircraft Technology, Civil Aviation Cabin Services, and Tourist Guiding programs, these programs do not have internship requirements.
2. VOLUNTARY INTERNSHIP
Optional Internship: These are the activities carried out by the student, although not included in the curriculum of the enrolled program, for the purpose of self-improvement, gaining experience, and reinforcing professional development. Our students can carry out voluntary internships individually at institutions and organizations where they apply and are accepted. In addition, our students seeking voluntary internship opportunities can follow the institutions requesting interns on our website https://kariyer.kapadokya.edu.tr/. Students who wish to undertake a voluntary internship must apply to their department and program heads with an “Optional Internship Petition.”
In voluntary internships, occupational accident and occupational disease insurance is covered by our University.
Students must prepare all internship documents in accordance with the Applied Education Directive and complete the internship file.
The internship period cannot be less than 30 working days. The 30 working days must be completed in one period without interruption.
In associate and undergraduate programs, an optional internship can be done only once. However, students in programs with compulsory internships must first complete their compulsory internships before applying for an optional internship.
Optional internships cannot be carried out during the academic year.
Students who successfully complete the internship are awarded additional ECTS credits. The internship does not affect graduation.

2. VOCATIONAL TRAINING IN ENTERPRISES
Vocational training in enterprises is defined as the training in which students of vocational training programs conduct their theoretical training at the University, at the enterprise, or in training units established by enterprises, and their skill training through practical training at the enterprise.
Vocational training in enterprises is foreseen to consolidate theoretical and practical knowledge acquired during fall, spring, and summer terms and is considered part of the education process. Its timing, duration, and subject are determined according to the principles set forth here and regulated through bilateral protocols in private or public institutions and organizations. Workplaces for vocational training are determined or approved by the University. To ensure that our students learn by applying their knowledge and experience real working conditions, support is obtained from reputable companies and institutions that are experts in their fields.
Vocational training in enterprises is carried out in the periods specified in each program/department’s curriculum for the relevant academic year. During the training, classes may be divided into student groups or combined to ensure the practices are conducted in line with the objectives and for greater benefit. Depending on suitability, the training may continue until the beginning of the following academic year. If necessary, vocational training applications may be planned to continue into the following academic term as well.
If vocational training in enterprises is planned to continue into the following academic term, the course grade is assigned in the term the practical training ends; however, the course is recorded on the transcript under the term it was taken. Until the course is completed, it is shown as ongoing work with the symbol “-” in the transcript of the term it was taken.
In vocational training carried out outside University facilities, each student is evaluated by the workplace training staff using the “Application Performance Evaluation Form.” At the end of the training, the vocational training grade in the enterprise is determined by combining 50% of the employer’s evaluation report and 50% of the department/program chair’s evaluation. In cases deemed necessary, the evaluation by the department/program chair may be replaced by a written or oral exam conducted at the end of the training. The contribution of this exam grade to the overall grade is 50%.

3. PRACTICAL COURSES
A practical course is a course within the diploma program conducted in University application areas under the responsibility of the instructor(s) of the course, not within the scope of vocational training in enterprises or internships. Practical courses are conducted in the practice workshops, laboratories, or kitchens located in Cappadocia University campuses.
Practical course training is carried out in the periods specified in the curriculum of each program for the relevant academic year (fall, spring, or summer). During the application, classes may be divided into student groups or combined to ensure the practices are conducted in line with the objectives and for greater benefit. If necessary, practical courses may also be planned to continue into the following academic term.
If a practical course is planned to continue into the following academic term, the course grade is assigned in the term the practical training ends; however, the course is recorded on the transcript under the term it was taken. Until the course is completed, it is shown as ongoing work with the symbol “-” in the transcript of the term it was taken.
In practical courses, exams are planned and conducted according to the exam system of the course. These ratios may be changed and applied on a department and program basis by the decision of the relevant board.
Application Training Logbook
A practical training can be planned to continue both in University facilities and at enterprises. Students must record all the application activities they perform during vocational training within the University facilities and at the enterprise using the “Application Training Logbook.”
