NEXUS 2026 International Conference on English Language Teaching and Translation, organized in collaboration with University of Cappadocia and Çağ University, was held between 24-26 September at our Mustafapaşa Campus.

Organized under the theme “New X-Disciplinary Insights and Solutions in ELT and Translation Science Fields”, the conference brought together academics, researchers and practitioners from the fields of English language teaching and translation science. Within the scope of the conference, interdisciplinary approaches, current research and the effects of technological transformation on language education and translation science were discussed.

At the opening of the conference, our Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Ali Karasar and Çağ University Rector Prof. Dr. Murat Koç addressed the participants.

“Language is the Memory and Culture of a Society”

In his speech, our Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Ali Karasar pointed out the multilayered structure of Cappadocia, which has been home to different civilizations, languages and cultures throughout history, and emphasized the importance of the region for an international academic meeting in the field of language education and translation.

Karasar stated that language is not only a means of communication, “Language is one of the most beautiful indicators of a society's memory, culture and civilization it represents, and translation is one of the most important ways to connect that memory with other societies.”

The Importance of Language in the Transmission of Knowledge and Thought was Emphasized

In his speech, Prof. Dr. Murat Koç, Rector of Çağ University, pointed out that language plays an important role not only in the transmission of knowledge, but also in bringing thought into society; he stressed the importance of effective expression of academic knowledge with the words: “We as academics can know everything very well, but we can also design it in our heads. But to be able to share this with people through our language depends on the quality of our care for language.”

As part of the scientific program of the conference, invited speakers Prof. Dr. Masatoshi Sato and Prof. Dr. Jorge Díaz-Cintas met with the participants. In the sessions and poster presentations, the researchers shared their work, and current issues in the field of English language teaching and translation science were evaluated with the approaches of different disciplines.

NEXUS 2026, which prepared the ground for the sharing of academic knowledge and experience, ended with the Cappadocia cultural program, which took place on September 26.
