The 4th year students of the School of Health Sciences of our University passed one of the important stages of their professional journey at the White Apron Wearing Ceremony held at our Uçhisar Sanat Campus.
During the ceremony, our students who studied in the departments of Language and Speech Therapy, Audiology, Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Nutrition and Dietetics and Child Development wore their white coats from the hands of our academics.
The white coat, which is one of the important symbols of education in the field of health; represents a new era in which our students will carry the knowledge and skills acquired during the educational process into practice with professional responsibility, ethical values and people-oriented understanding. Early on, Director of the School of Health Sciences, Dr. Rukiye Yalap, gave a speech.
Yalap, who began his remarks by commemorating the founder of our University, Alev Alatlı, pointed out the meaning that the white coat carries in terms of professional ethics and ethical responsibility. Emphasizing that the white coat is worn as a symbol of professional ethics, Yalap said, “We do not only wear a uniform to our students, but what they will wear when performing their profession. We want them to be aware of their responsibilities, to remember them at all times.” Yalap stated that when referring to medical personnel, one speaks of a concept that includes the principles of professional ethics and medical ethics, and stressed the importance that students who will become future health personnel should not make any distinction during their professional lives, such as religion, language, race and gender. Yalap, who stated that the basis of the principles of health care is not to harm the patient and addressed the students, saying: “In every practice you do, act with the benefit and health of the patient, and not your own interests.”
Yalap stated that the students have acquired the basic knowledge and skills related to their profession through theoretical and laboratory courses to date, said: “This year they will go out into the field as fourth year students and reinforce the basic knowledge they have acquired through practice. I hope they will have a successful professional life with the awareness of the responsibility that the white coat they wear has placed on them,” he said.
We celebrate all our students who have entered a new stage in their professional journey by wearing their white bibs, and wish them success in their educational and professional lives.
