This month's guest of the program “Texts That Guided Us with Flame” with Ömür Ceylan was Bekir Ağırdır, a member of the Board of Trustees of the University of Cappadocia, a public opinion researcher and author.

The program, which was held at Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Campus of the University of Cappadocia, dealt with the process of change in Turkey and the world on the axis of Alev Alatlı's world of thought.

In the program, the political, economic, cultural and social transformations experienced on a global scale were evaluated through the concept of “intermediate period”. Bekir Ağırdır stated that humanity is going through a new transformation process, stating that the current economic, political and social orders are undergoing a significant change. In the process, he stressed, the need for a new vision of the future and a common story has become increasingly visible.

Ağırdır stated that the approach of “enlightenment, not mercy” that Alev Alatlı often expresses, has gained even more meaning in today's world. Stating that it is not enough to evaluate the human being solely on the basis of reason and measurable data, Ağırdır pointed out that social life must be treated together with conscience, compassion and common values.

The programme also focused on the importance of local culture, social memory and shared life experiences in the world of the future. It was stated that the cultural accumulation and local values that Turkey has provided an important opportunity in the construction of a new vision of civilization.

The program, which also addressed the responsibility of universities to produce knowledge, emphasized that higher education institutions should be institutions that produce research, guide society and contribute to regional development beyond just vocational structures. In this context, the University of Cappadocia's approach to applied education, its academic structure fueled by local needs and its contributions to regional development were evaluated as examples.

At the end of the program, the program was concluded by stating that Alev Alatlı's thought legacy offers an important reference in terms of understanding today's global issues and developing new perspectives for the future.
