Our founder, ally and author Alev Alatlı, was commemorated by the panel entitled “A World Watchman in the Horizons of Turkish Thought: Alev Alatlı” held at Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University.

at Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University Farabi Campus Sezai Karakoç Cultural Center; Our Chairman of the Board of Trustees Funda F. Aktan, Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Ali Karasar, BEUN Rector İsmail Hakkı Özer, Dean of Istanbul Culture University Faculty of Arts and Sciences Prof. Dr. Ömür Ceyr Zonguldak Provincial Gendarmerie Commander Kd. Colonel Barış Gücen and his wife Melek Dücen, Provincial Director of National Education Uygar Keskin, President of MHP Zonguldak Province Çağatay İpekçi, Provincial Director of Industry and Technology Metin Vural, with provincial and district protocol, academic and administrative staff A number of students participated.
In the
panel, Alev Alatlı's world of ideas formed on the axis of courage, morality, reason and lore was discussed. In the speeches, Alatlı emphasized the importance of transferring the values that Alatlı brought to the life of Turkish thought through his search for truth, his intellectual stance and his vision of civilization to the younger generations.
Our Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Ali Karasar: “He left a lasting legacy to the world of Turkish thought.”
Our
Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Ali Karasar began his speech by remembering Alev Alatlı with mercy and stated that having had the opportunity to work with him was a great value for him. Karasar stated that Alatlı left a lasting mark both with his works and his will to establish a university, and said that he revealed a line of thinking that leads to the truth.
Karasar stressed that
Alatlı's call to “look not at the finger, but in the direction that the finger points” points to a direction centered on truth and human dignity, Karasar stressed that he is a man of thought that does not fit into narrow intellectual patterns. He thanked those who worked, stating that the emphasis on “reason, morality, justice, adoration and love”, which is the motto of our university, is also an institutional reflection of this intellectual heritage.
BEUN Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özometer: “He was an enlightened ally who stood in the line of truth.”
BEUN Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özer began his speech by remembering Alev Alatlı with mercy, respect and longing on the second anniversary of his death. Expressing his satisfaction with hosting the participants in this meaningful program, Özmeter expressed that they were not just a writer, but also a mentor who was an example with his ideas and courage.
Özometer stated that Alatlı was in touch with the Turkey-centered line of thought, and emphasized that his attitude towards truth is a moral stance beyond being an intellectual preference. Özmetzer stated that he prefers not to be silent in difficult times, especially on the Palestinian issue, and stated that Alatlı carries the identity of an intellectual who acts with a sense of responsibility. Funda F. Aktan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees: “The way to understand Alev Alatlı is through reading his works correctly.”
In
her speech, our Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Funda F. Aktan, described Alev Alatlı's thinking direction and university ideal. Stating that Alatlı has a point of view that calls to see the whole, Aktan expressed that he sees knowledge as an area of responsibility, not a show of strength.
Aktan stated that Alatlı's approach, shaped by the principles of “reason, morality, justice, adap and love”, gained an institutional reputation at the University of Cappadocia. Aktan said that our University was founded with love and that this meaning loaded with knowledge is the main reference. Aktan expressed that the fact that Alatlı received an honorary doctorate from Beun has a separate meaning for them, and thanked those who worked in organizing the program.
Prof. Dr. Ömür Ceylan: “Young people should definitely read Alev Alatlı.”
In his
speech, Prof. Dr. Ömür Ceylan described the process of the emergence of the seven-volume study “Texts That Guide Us”, which they prepared with Alev Alatlı. Stating that thousands of texts have been studied over a wide range of dates from the eighth century to the present, Ceylan stated that the work has a strong scientific background with extensive indexes and
bibliographies.
Ceylan pointed out the importance of the correct understanding of Alatlı, and stressed that it is important for young people to read not only this work, but also works such as “White Turks Kustüler”, “O.K. Musti Türkiye Tamamdir”, “World Watch” and “I Think Like This Means Olmuyor”.
The panel once again revealed the modernity of the intellectual heritage of Alev Alatlı; it was an occasion to bring the values that he brought to our life of thought and brought to life with the younger generations.
