A tourist guide is a professional who, within the framework of a specific program, guides domestic and foreign tourists, provides accurate information in the appropriate language about the sites included in the program, promotes the country or region, and helps tourists gain accurate socio-economic and cultural impressions. The Tourism Guidance Department trains professional guides who will take on important roles and responsibilities in representing and promoting countries, and who will possess the essential qualifications that provide a competitive advantage.
Cappadocia, Turkey’s most important cultural tourism location, offers program students the opportunity to receive applied training with the support of leading tourism agencies, enabling them to quickly establish themselves in the sector after graduation. Thanks to our academic staff composed of experienced guides who actively work in the field, students can easily follow not only solid theoretical knowledge but also practical and up-to-date information.
In order for Tourism Guidance graduates to practice guiding in Turkey, they must complete the TUREB regional tours and language requirements specified in the legislation and apply to become licensed tourist guides. Graduates can practice regional and national tourist guiding at travel agencies or independently. In addition, even if graduates do not obtain a license, they can organize operations in the tourism sector, work as tour leaders, or be employed as information officers or managers in tour planning and ticket sales departments of travel agencies. Graduates also have the opportunity to establish their own travel businesses, work as museum guides in museums and historical sites, or become managers and academics if they meet the necessary conditions.
The Tourism Guidance Department offers courses essential for the profession, such as Archaeology, Art History, History of Religions, Mythology, and Cultural Heritage Management. In addition, there are courses that cover the knowledge and competencies required by the professional standards of tourist guidance. These courses provide theoretical and field practice knowledge to guide candidates. Alongside basic English required for tourism, elective courses such as Spanish are also offered.
