Graphic design is the art of using visual elements to communicate information or convey a specific message through visual communication. This discipline combines text, visuals, and graphic elements to ensure effective communication of information.
The Department of Graphic Design is an educational program that aims to provide students with both theoretical and practical skills in the field of design. In this program, students learn to effectively convey messages using visual communication tools. Courses in the Graphic Design Department include art and design history, basic design principles, color theory, typography, visual hierarchy, composition, brand design, and digital design. Students understand the fundamentals of visual communication and put them into practice through projects and applications. These skills include typography, color theory, visual communication theories, digital design tools, illustration techniques, photography, brand design, packaging design, printing techniques, and animation.
The Department of Graphic Design can also provide students with the ability to design for different media types. Students generally work on design projects and workshops. These projects allow students to use their creativity, develop problem-solving skills, and design at a professional level. In this program, students improve both their theoretical knowledge and practical skills while building their own portfolios.
Considering the limited number of departments offering education in this field in Nevşehir and neighboring provinces where our university is located, it can be seen that there are challenges in the employment of the “Graphic Design” sector in the region. The Department of Graphic Design at Cappadocia University will not only meet the workforce needs of the sector in the region but also contribute to the regional development. In the application laboratories specially designed for the Graphic Design program, students have the opportunity to receive innovative and modern education.
Graduates of the Department of Graphic Design have a wide range of career opportunities. Depending on their interests, personal development, and specialization during their education, they can work as designers in full-service advertising agencies, social media agencies, publishing houses, marketing and advertising departments of companies, design departments of corporate firms, and in the media sector. They can pursue careers as User Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI) designers in web design, mobile application, and game design companies; as Motion Designers in the cinema and television industries; and as video editors in editing and post-production. They can also work as Freelance Designers, providing services to institutions and individuals in various sectors. Additionally, they have the opportunity to establish their own advertising agencies or studios and serve their clients.
Basic Design, Drawing, Design Tools and Techniques, Art and Design History, Typography, Photography, Logo Design, Packaging Design, Manual and Digital Illustration, Printing Techniques, Motion Graphics, Advertising Psychology, Marketing Principles, Web Design, Conceptual Design, Filmmaking, Video, Animation, and Film Graphics are among the compulsory and elective courses.
