City and Regional Planning is an interdisciplinary field that has gained importance with industrialization and, as a result, rapid urbanization and population growth, which have led to housing, infrastructure, transportation, and environmental problems. The aim of the Department of City and Regional Planning is to train city planners who design aesthetic and well-planned cities with an approach that considers public interest and protects cultural and natural assets, in order to create healthy social and individual living spaces in line with people's demands and needs.
The curriculum is designed to enhance students' knowledge in different disciplinary fields. City planners collaborate with many disciplines such as architecture, environmental design, landscape architecture, urban design, art history, archaeology, urban conservation, ecology, urban management, human-environment relations, and urban economics.
Currently, four billion people live in cities. The United Nations predicts that by 2050, the rate of urbanization will reach two-thirds of the world’s population. Within the framework of the principle of sustainability, the need for city and regional planners is increasing in order to design more livable spaces.
