The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics is a scientific field that studies the effects of food on human health and how food should be consumed. This field is related both to health and the food industry. Graduates of the Nutrition and Dietetics Department receive the title of “Dietitian.” Dietitians examine the effects of changes that occur during the processing, preparation, cooking, and storage of food on the human body; identify nutritional problems in society; take preventive measures against health issues caused by inadequate and unbalanced nutrition; conduct food analyses; develop dietary products; and prepare diet programs suitable for the diseases of individuals or groups.
Cappadocia University views the university period as a developmental process in which students improve both their professional and personal competencies. In addition to theoretical and practical courses related to the profession, the Nutrition and Dietetics Department of Cappadocia University offers its students courses such as basic presentation and communication, general culture, computer use, and advanced English. The aim is to graduate students as well-equipped individuals who know how to learn, are ready for the long life ahead of them, and are fully competent.
In practical courses, the fully equipped practice kitchen of Cappadocia Alev Alatlı Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School of Gastronomy is used. In addition, students benefit from the anatomy and microbiology laboratories of the Nutrition and Dietetics Department, thus having the opportunity to practice hands-on.
Graduates of the Nutrition and Dietetics Department are employed in government institutions and ministries such as the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock. In addition, they have a wide range of employment opportunities in public and private hospitals, the food-pharmaceutical industry, national and international nutrition organizations (TDD, WHO, FAO), maternal and child health centers, medical centers, mass nutrition systems, sports centers, public health units, private nutrition consultancy centers, research institutions, and educational institutions. They can also pursue master’s and doctoral programs at universities and work as researchers or lecturers.
Students of the Nutrition and Dietetics Department can benefit from double major (ÇAP) and minor programs to enrich their expertise in nutrition science with different disciplines in health, behavior, and gastronomy, thereby broadening their career prospects.

Students admitted to a double major program have the right to receive two separate diplomas by completing a second undergraduate program simultaneously with their major. Thus, they combine their expertise in nutrition and dietetics with competencies in their second field, gaining a strong advantage in both clinical and multidisciplinary health and food sectors.

The Nutrition and Dietetics curriculum is structured to support students’ professional competency with foreign language development. General English courses are provided in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th semesters, while field-specific English courses are given in the 5th, 6th, and 7th semesters.
Alongside global awareness courses, the continuously updated curriculum aims to train dietitians who study foods, nutritional practices, and their effects on public health. Courses cover topics such as the effects of nutrition on growth and development in different age groups, nutrition in diseases, management of healthy and balanced diets in mass nutrition systems, and assessment of the nutrition-health relationship. Students also graduate with experience in Turkish and World Cuisines.
