What Is the Nursing Department? Why Should I Study It?

Nursing is a professional occupation that exists wherever and whenever people exist. Nurses integrate the science and art of care with a love- and compassion-centered approach to improve health and humanity, prevent illness and injury, alleviate suffering, recognize and improve human responses, and advocate for the care of individuals, families, groups, and communities. Nurses assume roles and responsibilities across the different stages of human life, from birth to death.

Nursing involves challenging working conditions. Individuals who wish to become nurses should be dedicated, patient, and open to learning and change. Therefore, it is important that prospective students choose the profession consciously and with an awareness of its nature. Although nursing may have demanding conditions, it is one of the most trusted professions worldwide and has a universal character. Students who enroll in nursing may benefit from opportunities such as working or studying abroad. In our country, employment prospects for the nursing profession are quite strong.

Why Should I Study Nursing at Cappadocia University?

There is a practice laboratory specifically designed for the Nursing Department to conduct applied courses. These laboratories include a classroom that simulates a hospital environment, providing opportunities to gain realistic experience. In addition to the field-specific professional knowledge and skills gained through standard undergraduate education, the Nursing Department at Cappadocia University offers courses that support students’ personal development. Through the Erasmus program, our students are also offered the opportunity to study at universities in different countries abroad.

Double Major (ÇAP) and Minor Opportunities in the Nursing Department

Students of the Nursing Department can expand their career options by enriching their expertise in patient care and health management through complementary disciplines via double major (ÇAP) and minor programs.

Programs Available for Double Major

  • Nutrition and Dietetics

  • Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation

Students admitted to a double major program have the right to complete a second undergraduate program simultaneously with Nursing and obtain two separate diplomas. In this way, they combine nursing expertise with advanced knowledge in nutrition-dietetics and/or physiotherapy-rehabilitation, gaining a strong competitive advantage in clinical care, public health, and rehabilitation settings.

Programs Available for Minor

  • Psychology

  • Nutrition and Dietetics

  • Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation

Minor programs allow you to gain basic knowledge and skills in a second discipline while continuing to focus on your main field, Nursing; upon successful completion of the program, you graduate with a minor certificate.

These double major and minor opportunities help our students develop skills in patient communication, holistic care, multidisciplinary teamwork, and rehabilitation planning, enabling them to stand out in the dynamic healthcare sector. For application requirements, success criteria, and quota details, please contact your department advisor.

What Do Nursing Graduates Do? What Are the Career Opportunities?

Nursing graduates can work in healthcare institutions affiliated with the Ministry of Health (training and research hospitals, state hospitals, public health centers, family health centers), as well as in private hospitals, specialty hospitals, health centers, factories, and occupational health and safety units. Graduates may also pursue postgraduate education and serve as academics in higher education institutions.

Depending on the nature of their work settings, nurses can assume various roles such as providing patient care, performing emergency interventions, participating in early diagnosis efforts, delivering education, administering medication, conducting research, and taking roles in professional associations and non-governmental organizations.

Which Courses Are Offered in the Nursing Department?

The nursing curriculum is structured within the scope of the “National Core Nursing Curriculum,” reflects the latest updates, meets the universal criteria expected of graduates, and is designed to provide knowledge and skills specific to the nursing profession. Our curriculum also aims to train nurses who can respond to the increasing number and changing nature of humanitarian crises worldwide.

Within the curriculum, there are basic medical science courses that provide the foundation for field courses. In addition to these, there are core nursing area courses such as Fundamentals of Nursing, Pediatric Nursing, Women’s Health Nursing, Mental Health Nursing, Public Health Nursing, Surgical Nursing, and Internal Medicine Nursing. To help students gain practical skills during the semester, clinical practices are included. At the end of the third year, students complete a summer internship to develop professional experience. The fourth-year curriculum is predominantly clinical education, and students have the opportunity to practice in clinical settings.
