The program, which aims to create a qualified workforce needed by the Ministry of Justice in the provision of penal execution services, trains professionals who play an active role in rehabilitating detainees and convicts in penal institutions and prisons, take responsibility in the rehabilitation, monitoring, and supervision of probationers served by Probation Directorates, and who are capable of following current developments in the penal-execution system with their knowledge and skills.
As is well known, a successful career is primarily built on a good education. More importantly, this education should enable individuals to build an information infrastructure that allows them to continuously update themselves. With this in mind, the program's courses focus on equipping students with the knowledge they will need in their professional fields and providing them with a scientific, critical, and distinctive perspective to follow current developments in the field of penal execution. The Penal Execution and Security Services Program includes not only theoretical courses but also practical training designed to develop students’ physical capacities and show them how to apply the knowledge they acquire throughout their education. Another important factor that makes our Associate Degree Program in Penal Execution and Security Services attractive is its academic staff. The courses are taught by academics with professional experience in the fields of penal execution, law enforcement, private security, sports sciences, law, and social sciences.
Students who graduate from the Associate Degree Program in Penal Execution and Security Services, which was opened under a protocol signed between the General Directorate of Prisons and Detention Houses of the Ministry of Justice and our University, and who meet the qualifications defined in the relevant legislation, will be able to work in institutions within the Penal Execution System with the title of “Correctional Officer.”
The curriculum of the Penal Execution and Security Services Program is mainly based on the “Framework Curriculum” determined by the Ministry of Justice as per the protocol signed with our University. In addition, it is revised every year so that students can follow current debates in the criminal justice system, acquire the knowledge, skills, and values needed for their profession, and keep up with global changes in the provision of security services. The curriculum is structured around two main areas: the professional field of correctional officers and the recent shifts in approaches to security services. In the correctional field, courses such as “Criminology,” “Penal Execution Law,” “Penal Institution Security,” “Management of Penal Institutions,” and “Criminal Procedure Law” are offered. In addition to developments in the legal field, students are expected to gain a psychological and sociological knowledge base to perform their duties successfully. Courses such as “Psychosocial Approaches in Penal Institutions,” “Human Rights in Penal Institutions,” “Psychology,” “Social Psychology,” and “Dynamic Security Approach in the Penal Execution System” help students understand the psychosocial and philosophical foundations of services in the penal execution field. To keep up with recent developments in security services, part of the curriculum includes courses derived from Private Security Services legislation. Furthermore, students are required to have physical resilience and gain skills in self-defense. Through the “Martial Arts” course, they improve their physical capacity and self-defense skills, while the “Professional Intervention Techniques and Tactics” course provides them with field-specific intervention skills.
