Rector

Hasan Ali KARASAR was born in Ankara in 1972. Completed his B.A. in 1994 at Bilkent, M.A. in 1996 at Marquette and PhD in 2002 at Bilkent on International Relations. He served as a lecturer at Bilkent History (2003-2005) and International Relations Departments (2005-2013). He also ran the Bilkent Center for Russian Studies in the capacity of its general secretary (2005-2013). He also served as the Central Asia department chair of Ankara-based think tank Center for Eurasian Strategic Studies between 2003 and 2005. His research is focused on diplomatic history, Turkish foreign policy, international politics, Eurasian politics, history and politics of Central Asia, think-tanks and foreign policy analysis. He was one of the pioneers who worked hard on transforming Eurasian and regional studies into an academic discipline. His articles were published in Cornucopia, Europe-Asia Studies, Central Asian Survey, Central Asia-Caucasus Analyst and Bilig journals. He edited books on Think-Tanks in Eurasia, Strategic Research Culture and Strategic Research Centers in Turkey: Turkish Think-Tanks from the beginning. He is the co-author of the book Turkestan Integration: The Quest for Unity in Central Asia 1991-2001. During his tenure at Atılım University, he served as an Associate Professor (2013-15), then as a full Professor (2015-17) and as a vice dean of the Faculty of Management. He joined to Cappadocia University in August 2017 and serves as the Rector of the university since 28 December 2017.
